As there are no middlemen involved, the goods are sold at nominal cost by TUCS

Residents of R.A. Puram are happy as they can now buy vegetables at reasonable rates, that too from outlets nearby. Thanks to the efforts taken by the Triplicane Urban Cooperative Society (TUCS), which has started sales at its supermarkets since last week.

The shop at R.A. Puram is located on Third Cross Road opposite to Sangeetha Hotel. One can purchase vegetables between 12 noon and 6 p.m. in an air conditioned ambience. Fresh stocks arrive from the Koyambedu market and are kept in tubs at the entrance of the shop. Almost all the vegetables are sold at a price lower than the retail market price. Vegetables such as beans, which are sold for Rs. 80 a kg, are available at Rs. 30 at the TUCS outlet. Similarly, brinjal, cabbage and ladies finger are available at Rs. 20 a kg, which is the half the market rate. Residents are glad that they are able to purchase the much needed tomatoes and potatoes at nominal cost. As provisions are also available along with the vegetables, customers feel that all the shopping can be done at one place.
