SYMA takes the initiative to keep the area clean
Gone are the days when people felt that Chennai was a haven, in spite of the rising mercury level and sweltering heat. What is slowly driving out even long-time residents away from the city is upswept streets strewn all over with plastic paper, fallen leaves, overflowing dustbins, plastic bags strung tightly with garbage and stink emanating from rotten food thrown carelessly on in the middle of the road.
Recalling the old days, some of the long-time old time residents of Triplicane say, “Years ago, the broad mada streets emanated with smells of camphor and incense. and fresh cow dung. Garbage collection was not at all tedious and there used to be as small dustbins were kept in front of every streethouse and some bigger ones at designated places. Over a period of time, the houses gave way to apartments. As a result, not only individual houses disappeared but the bins too. And clean atmosphere became a thing of the past.
