So, how do you reach for the stars? One tool is imagination. The other is two pieces of glasses — or the telescope. Needless to say, when the B. M. Birla Planetarium in Guindy opened its 45 programme to educate students about the history and evolution of telescopes, it named the show ‘Two Small Pieces of Glass.’
The 35-minute full dome show began with two children discussing about how the size (bigger the better) of a telescope lens determines the amount of light that enters through it enabling one to take a bright look at the faint objects of the universe. They then moved on to a star party to meet an astronomer who explained to them about the various kinds of telescopes and first simple telescope used by the Italian scientist Galileo Galilei to look at the satellites of Jupiter.
