Youngsters hit the city for education and employment opportunities, especially during this time of the year, from remote parts of the State and the country. With changing times and lifestyle, the needs and wants of these new comers have been changing. They prefer exclusive living space and basic amenities, even if if means taking up responsibilities.
Sundaravalli, (from Erode) was posted to TCS Chennai in 2006. Initially, she stayed in a private hostel in Kilpauk. Unhappy with the quality of food and other facilities, she moved to another hostel, which she later found to be worse.
After changing many hostels, she, along with other friends, decided to share an apartment. This arrangement works out fine, not just for her, but for many youngsters in the city.
