“This part of the road has not been laid for more than 2 years now. It is so difficult to regulate traffic here as all the vehicles try to use the well-laid part of the road,” says the traffic personnel posted here. The road was good until two years ago.
On a request from the Highways Department, a part of The Greater Chennai Corporation School on Mount-Poonamallee Road was pulled down to broaden the road by 20 feet and give way to the huge volume of traffic.
However, that failed to solve the problem. The department did not make an attempt to black- top the 350m stretch. Fearing damage to their vehicles, drivers began avoiding the rough stretch. “Wanting to use only the well-laid stretch, vehicles pile up during peak hours. But heavy vehicles and two-wheelers do use it, raising a dust storm every time they pass by,” said the traffic personnel.
