MOP Vaishnav College for Women came into being due to the sustained efforts of two trusts — the Sri Vallabhacharya Vidhya Sabha and Dewan Bahadur MO Parthasarathy Aiyengar Charities. The college was started in 1992 with three courses — BCom, BBA and BSc Mathematics. Presently, the college offers 15 UG, seven PG courses and a research programme in the department of Commerce. The college is affiliated to the University of Madras and has been reaccredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with an A grade. The college also has the distinction of being one of the youngest in the country to have been granted autonomy by the University Grants Commission and the University of Madras.
The college imparts valuable life skills to 3,200 students against a faculty strength of 160 teaching and training staff. It has been at the forefront in incorporating state-of-the-art infrastructure in providing students a holistic education.
